Data Focus – Footfall

One of the data sets that will be available for tracking in the South West Visitor Economy Hub will be footfall data. This will be provided by a variety of sources; some existing public sector data and some sourced via new third party contracts.

Footfall data is understandably extremely useful data when it comes to giving insight into what is happening in a destination. When this data is available in daily granularity you can really understand how events impact the number of people moving around your destination. Of course, looking at this data in isolation can give some insight but you may have to cross reference a calendar or find other data sets to compare.

The T-Stats Solutions software behind the South West Visitor Economy Hub is unique in the analysis it provides because a user can simultaneously cross-track different key performance indicators against each other.

For example, how does heavy rainfall impact high street footfall? Did the Food Festival increase visitors to other key attractions in the destination? Do increased car parking sessions result in increased or decreased footfall? Does increased accommodation occupancy always correlate directly with increased footfall?

As we go through the process of collecting and collating these data we can’t help but get excited about the insight this will give the organisations and the business that sign up to access the Hub.
